Simplicity

I made reflections on these cherries but discarded them because it was not what I wanted. I spent significant time meditating on this painting and realized that I liked it like it was and did not want to correct it.

Mean birdy

During the Xmas solitude, I was home alone, I created several cardinal paintings. This is one of them.

Xmas gone

It is not a secret that professional painters create something for the occasion: Christmas trees and decorations for Christmas, bunnies for Easter, and so on. I found this boring, but I wanted to create moody paintings for the occasion.

#30

I uploaded #30 to the website.  I painted it twice and probably like it. Soon I will do it less often.

When I see many of my paintings together I start to believe that there is such thing as my style. I should think more about emotions and response but I am thinking about how to paint gold and metal.

How I spend this weekend

Painting fall colors was my goal anyway. Thus, I decided to train myself using the image below. As usual, this image lacks contrast and brightness. And I am trying to figure out what to do with the side trees.

While I like the idea of alla prima, I rarely use this approach. And this time too, I started by reducing white and clear canvas to dirty canvas. My underpainting is a very loose sketch that was done in 15 min.  I have not painted the side trees yet. Maybe I will later.

At least I painted on Saturday. Otherwise, Saturday was a nice and slow reading day.

Today, I was properly seasoned for painting. I knew that canvas waiting for me. It is a good time to learn how to paint fall gold and red.

I will walk around this painting for a week thinking and doubting myself. Should I add these trees? Will they make this painting more interesting? 9x12 canvas board.

PS Need increase contrast of sky and water.  Let it dry!

October painting challenge

Every month I play a game called Monthly Painting Challenge.  It is a part of my presence in one of the numerous Facebook communities.  Every month, the lady who leads this activity challenges me (and a few other ladies) with sometimes strange or interesting pictures, usually from sites with royalty-free images.  I often disapprove of her choice but consider it a challenge or duty.  It sets my mind to finish the job by not dropping it in the middle.

Today I started October painting. It is based on the fall photo made by the lady herself.
